Job Description
We are looking for a dedicated Social Worker to join our Urban Destitute Support project in Shire, providing critical assistance to internally displaced persons (IDPs) and vulnerable urban residents.
Position Overview:
The Social Worker will be based in Shire and work directly with beneficiaries to assess needs, provide psychosocial support, and facilitate access to services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive household vulnerability assessments
- Identify and register eligible beneficiaries for support programs
- Provide individual and group psychosocial support sessions
- Develop and maintain detailed case management files
- Make referrals to specialized services (health, legal, protection)
- Facilitate community support groups and awareness sessions
- Monitor beneficiary progress and conduct follow-up visits
- Document case studies and success stories
- Collaborate with local authorities and community leaders
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- BA/BSc in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or related field
- Minimum 2 years of experience in social work or case management
- Experience working with vulnerable populations (IDPs, refugees, or similar)
- Knowledge of psychosocial support principles and techniques
- Familiarity with protection mainstreaming and safeguarding
Required Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and counseling skills
- Empathy and ability to work with trauma survivors
- Good documentation and case management skills
- Fluency in Tigrinya (must); English is an advantage
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Cultural sensitivity and respect for diversity
Desirable:
- Training in psychosocial support (PSS) or counseling
- Experience working in humanitarian contexts
- Knowledge of local community structures in Shire
